I have been teaching saxophone and improvisation since the late eighties.
Like a child with a pencil can make a drawing, it is my opinion that few notes are enough to start making music.
Each student has his/her own pace and a path that is easier than the other. Developing a more complete technical control and musicality is the goal. Musical taste grows with technical ability.
In my experience, adults generally struggle at the beginning, but tend to have a better sense of discipline.
Children are much faster in developing a good sound and control of the instrument.
A good musicality is more important than the ability of passing “grades”.
I particularly enjoy teaching to students with a developing musical taste.
I teach in London, in the Shoreditch/ Bethnal Green area. I can visit, in some cases.
Lessons can sometimes be arranged in Hampton Court
